Will (for prediction)
When we use will we usually use the contracted forms of ’ll for the positive or won’t for the negative. Will has several uses, one of which is to make predictions. There are several kinds of predictions we can talk about using will:
• General predictions, e.g. I’ll be president one day. Do you think it’ll rain?
• You can also make a kind of prediction about the present, e.g. There’s no point going over to Paul’s, he’ll be at school.

LESSON 8:
Reading Strategy: Scanning for specific information.
| Hello my name is Paul Smith. I was visiting some friends in Japan when the tsunami hit the coasts. I was very afraid because at first everything was very normal until loud alarms starting to go off all around us! People in a very calm and orderly fashion started to abandon the streets. A couple of minutes later all the radio and TV stations started to give a Tsunami warning. To be alert and to go to one of the safe shelters in the city. To take only what was very valuable with you and to leave everything else behind. Moments later only silence was heard all around us when the first tsunami wave hit the city at around 9 o'clock. Then 2 other waves hit the coast and practically destroyed the city. I'm very lucky because nothing happened to me or to my friends. |
